With Derrick Rose being named today as the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the 2010-11 NBA season, it's about time I show off the best Rose card in my possession.
It's a Derrick Rose 2008 Playoff Contenders #78 RC Auto /88.
BACK
It has no serial number but Upper Deck stated its print run to only 88 copies produced. So, that makes this card one of his most limited rookie cards. It is even rarer that his Exquisite one which has 99 copies.
It also came from a baseball product so this is somewhat an oddball card.
The last four prices that ended at eBay for this card is pretty staggering.
Apr 24, 2011 $295.51 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Apr 15, 2011 $280.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Mar 31, 2011 $305 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Considering I got this card for only $95 back in February, I stand to make a huge profit if I sell now. On the other hand, I ought to keep it. Derrick Rose is still young at 22 and will surely get at least one more MVP Award.
And if he wins a championship ring, this might hit the $500 mark. Now, that's something.
UPDATE January 5, 2012: Even though I think this has the potential to reach the $500 mark given Rose and his team the Chicago Bulls' early success to start the 2011-12 NBA season, I sold this on eBay.
My wife is expecting our second child and I need to prepare some funds for it.
Sold this for $311.
